Opinion

A note from the publisher

Qasim Khan

LA Press is an independent newspaper. The name is the brand. It is not a claim that we maintain a Los Angeles newsroom, and we will not print a dateline we have not earned.

I am Qasim Khan, the publisher. I am accountable for what appears under this name: the news report, the opinion well, the Masthead, and the way a correction is handled. The newsroom mailbox is editorial@lapress.org. Mine is qasim@lapress.org. Tips come to tips@lapress.org.

The desks

The paper is organized as a general newsroom, not as a single-niche mill. The sections in the masthead are News, World, Politics, Business, Culture, Sports, Tech, Science, Health, Environment, Education, Games, and Opinion.

Each desk will be staffed by writers. Bylines will be real names on WordPress users, not invented bylines. Until a name appears on a story, it should not be assumed. Opinion is labeled and kept distinct from the news report.

What we will not do

We will not sell links or guest posts. We will not publish unsigned “news” written to rank. We will not restore exam-result pages or redeem-code catalogs and call that journalism. When we get a fact wrong, we will correct it on the page and, when it matters, on Corrections.

The standards that bind the report are on Editorial policy. How to reach the newsroom is on Contact. What the paper is, in one place, is on About.

If you write, photograph, or edit, and you want to work here, write the newsroom. The paper is open.
