How we cover technology

Technology coverage in LA Press is reporting: what a product does, who it serves, who it leaves out, and which public rules apply. That is the beat, not a list of coupons.

We will explain how a system works when the explanation is the public interest — encryption, recommendation, a cloud outage, a labor model in a warehouse or a content-moderation queue. We will not bury a reader in affiliate tables. If we ever take a commercial relationship on a gadget story, it will be labeled on the page.

Policy is part of the product

Competition cases, privacy statutes, app-store rules, and AI regulation belong here alongside the hardware. The European Union’s DMA and GDPR, the UK CMA, the U.S. FTC and DOJ, and national data-protection authorities are institutions we will name when they act. Company news that is really a balance-sheet story also belongs on Business.
