The business desk

Qasim Khan

This desk covers companies, workers, housing as a market, trade and logistics, entertainment as an industry, and the public decisions that move money.

The firms that dominate a beat will be named as subjects: Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta, Tesla, the large banks, the large airlines, the large retailers, and the national champions that matter to a story. Naming them is reporting. It is not an endorsement.

Labor and the floor

An earnings call is one room. The warehouse, the newsroom, the set, and the shop floor are others. When a company is the subject, we will say so, and we will ask the people who work there what the announcement meant. Unions, contractors, and regulators belong in the same story when they are in the facts.

We will not give investment advice. We will not reprint an earnings release and call it a story. Related technology coverage lives on Tech; the culture industry’s books and labor also run on Culture.
